Geo-Location Twitter Trend Tracking – Monitter!

April 25th, 2009

monitter

Monitter is another really cool Twitter Trend tracking tool that lets you only track a specified location such as 10 miles within San Francisco.

I find this very helpful in finding other new Twitters that might live close to me.

For example, if I am a local plumber, I might want to utilize this tool to network with all the plumbers within 25 mile range of San Francisco.

Long Term Twitter Trend Tracking – Twopular!

April 25th, 2009

Twopular is another cool Twitter Trend tracking site that let’s you see which terms have been popular on Twitter in the last 2 hours, 8 hours, 24 hours, week, month, and total-ever.  I find Twopular very helpful in analyzing what has happened in the past.  For example, in the last 30 days, we can see that Easter, Earth Hour, and Oprah were pretty darn popular.

Twopular started as a pure “let’s surf a bit on the twitter wave” project. And actually, this status hasn’t really changed yet and I am still not sure what’s the real use of it. Maybe its all about amusing people by listing them as top trendsetter – not too bad. In any case for now I will keep the elephant running, hope he makes some friends out there and he will let me know one day where he wants to go.

Twitter Trend Tracking – Twist

April 25th, 2009

Twist is another great app for tracking Twitter trends via friendly graphs that will sorta tell you when Twitters are twittering about a certain topic the most during a period of 7 days or 30 days.

I personally found that Twist is great for tracking “major” Twitter trends, it’s not too helpful if you run a small-business or you need detailed graphs on your niche brand.

This is a great way to predict which Twitter trends will become popular in the next week so I think it will be very useful especially on holidays when people might tend to buy stuff for their loved ones. (Internet Marketing tip)

Google Employee Dustian Diaz Moves to Twitter!

April 25th, 2009

Perhaps the rumors that Twitter is the next Google and will replace e-mail in year 2015 isn’t too far off as more and more Google employees are moving to Twitter.

Ded, or Dustin Diaz, is another such Google employee who has defected himself to Twitter and twitted this:

I think it’s too early to tell if Twitter will be the next Google or not but certainly if Twitter keeps employee-napping Googlers, Twitter just might become the next Google.

According to Googlers:

“It’s kind of shocking we couldn’t keep him,” another Googler tells us, calling Diaz “one of the best frontend developers around.” But of course, Twitter is the hot new company, just like Facebook was months back when it was stealing employees left and right from larger companies — like Google.

Do NOT OPEN StalkDaily Links on Twitter, It’s a worm!

April 11th, 2009

worm

About 3 to 4 hours ago, I started receiving bunch of tweets from numerous other twitters warning about StalkDaily (www.stalkdaily.com DO NOT OPEN!) Worm, and to not click on the link as you will download a worm, which will take over your Twitter account.

Ultimately, the infected computer will relay messages to go to StalkDaily website.  (DO NOT GO!)

It seems that it has pretty much died down now as the Twitter @spam team has acted with countermeasures but you should still be careful and do not visit StalkDaily website until next year! :)   No just kidding, just wait until everything settles down.

This news is so critical that Mashable, ReadWriteWeb, TechCrunch have them on their front page since couple hours ago.

We should figure out who’s really behind this as StalkDaily website owners claim it’s not them, FBI should be contacted shortly.

Twitter Soars Past 14 Million Users!

April 7th, 2009

Twitter hasn’t been exactly popular “all” of last couple years but media-hype seems to have added another 4 Million users in the last 30 days to total at 14 Million users. (via @Andrew303)

Web traffic doubling every month of this year certainly proves that Twitter might be onto something here, sorta like a rocketship about to take off.

Of course, Twitter is still far behind Facebook but it’s certain that Twitter is on a sharp-rise this year, Facebook may succomb as Twitter’s lunch in couple years.

Twitter Surpasses Digg, Stumbleupon, and New York Times!

April 7th, 2009

Is Twitter hot these days?  You betcha it is!

During the last couple months of 2009, Twitter has EXPLODED into the World, almost doubling its web traffic every 30 days.

Here’s a couple graphs why Twitter might be just starting out:

twitter-2

Digg versus Twitter – Note that Digg has been around for awhile but Digg never got as big as Twitter.  (Think of getting twitted instead digged these days…)

twitter-3

StumbleUpon versus Twitter – StumbleUpon has been a good source of traffic for many bloggers and alike but nothing compared to Twitter at this point.

twitter-1

NyTimes.com versus Twitter – Thought New York Times got a lot of traffic?  Think again, Twitter just surpassed NYTimes.com.

The great news is that the “peak” of Twitter might not be reached for another couple years.  If that’s the case, it’s going to make Digg, StumbleUpon, and NYTimes like pins in haystacks.

One thing I am worried is, can Twitter keep up with the traffic demands of the world?  Seeing the birds and the whale frequently is not a good sign, they really need to upgrade servers or make things run faster.  I am sure they will in time but in the meantime, we will just have to be satisfied our favorite Web 2.0 communication platform flat out beats all other Web 2.0 social networking sites.
